Welcome to Homeschool Fridays!

Not just any mom

My name is Emma and I am not just any mom.. I am a “homeschool-on-Fridays-kind-of-mom”.Emma at Homeschool Fridays about me

Yes, that’s right, I HOMESCHOOL MY THREE CHILDREN on Fridays and the remaining four days they spend in school. I really believe this gives me the best of everything. A little like “both having my cake and eat it”… It allows me to spend more time with my kids and also to get involved in their education. At the same time it gives them the social competence and peer connections they need.

I have always been a big fan of homeschooling, but when time came for my oldest to start school, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to do it completely on my own. Even more importantly I felt it wouldn’t be a good choice for my children’s specific needs. You see, my children are tri-lingual and my oldest didn’t speak English when she started school. I was worried that my children would become very isolated, not knowing English if I kept them home full time.

A friend of mine told me about a local Montessori Charter School, where they had the option of homeschooling part time. As you can imagine this school has a looong waiting list, but we were lucky to get accepted on the first try.

Today I have all three enrolled in this school and we love it! My youngest is in Kindergarten, my number two in second grade and my oldest in fifth grade.

What you can expect from my blog Homeschool Fridays

Every month my children receive a homeschool packet they are supposed to work on at home throughout the month. The packet includes a few assignments to complete within each subject. Most of these assignments are very open ended. In other words; it is up to you what you do with it. Sometimes it becomes rather creative, such as making erupting volcanoes, biomes in boxes and three-dimensional solar systems.

Believe me when I say –

I will also like to show you how to make math fun and how you can turn sight-words into a fun game! I’ll share printables I make and use for my own kids and I will share crafting projects, tips, encouragement and inspiration about homeschooling!

While my children attend a Montessori school, I don’t have a Montessori educational background. I love education through creating, but I can’t promise you perfect. What I will promise you is to do my very best helping you to nurture your children’s love of learning.

The goal is to make them curious and self-directed in order to develop their own desire to learn.

Let’s get started! Because I’m sure you are not just any mom either…
